Right well Prince Harry has comprehensively lost his court case. However he will only, with the other claimants, have to pay £4m after the judge limited costs. Support to @DailyMail journalists who were magnificent over Stephen Lawrence. They didn’t deserve any of this.

Replying to @LouiseMensch I want to correct myself here. There was indeed a ruling pre-trial limiting further costs to 4m for Harry et al and 5m for the Mail. But it doesn’t cover money already spent up to that point, nor some other stuff. Harry will have had insurance, but that only pays out up to a certain limit. The judge probably won’t give full costs, my guess is 25 – 30 million. Harry is only liable for 1/7th of it, but he should pay Doreen Lawrence’s bill in full, having personally visited her and persuaded her to join what proved to be a baseless case. She doesn’t have Netflix money and couldn’t write a book dobbing the Royal Family in for cash. In my view he is morally obligated to pay every penny of her costs.

Paul Dacre, Elizabeth Hartley, Peter Wright, Caroline Graham, Richard Kay… I could go on… Prince Harry tried to destroy them all… look at the detail here… the Judge has exonerated them all… the consequences for Harry are catastrophic… I know some of these Mail people… their lives have been thrown into utter turmoil… they will NEVER forgive Harry nor will their successors. Huge. He may never come home now. The Mail ain’t perfect but is now a Lion roaring… Dacre can have his knighthood… they looked down the barrel of a gun… but it was firing blanks…

I agree that Harry was badly advised by lawyers etc. But the Mail was surely lucky in the judge who demanded higher standards of proof of misconduct than Sun & Mirror cases Team Harry won. As with Rebecca Brooks Dacre & Co were lucky. Walls of £££ help

Prince Harry and the other claimants who lost their court case against the Daily Mail publisher have been told the costs incurred by Associated Newspapers for defending the case amount to a staggering £34.5 million One wonders how Harry, Elton John, Sadie Frost, Liz Hurley etc are going to cover that?

Imagine losing your case, facing a legal bill that’s still being worked out, then remembering you also have your own lawyers to pay. Let’s not forget the Dragon Slayer also has his own legal team to pay. As Meghan Markle recently revealed, whenever life gets difficult, Harry reminds her: “Hey, but my love, you know, even if there’s a storm happening, above the storm, the sun’s always shining.” Prince Harry… I’d say this qualifies as one of those “really hard days.” Hopefully that sunshine reaches the legal bills.

Rod Liddle, a Sun and Sunday Times columnist (but at his best in the Spectator) has died at 66. He leaves a wife and three children. Sun editors were often concerned his views would lead to problems with advertisers so effectively barred him from writing about Islam or trans. Quite wrong. When Emma Tucker was Editor of the Sunday Times she tried to have him sacked as a columnist because he was white and Right. Really great credit to owner Rupert Murdoch who blocked the sacking with Liddle (he joined in 2005) lasting a lot longer than Tucker who was moved to the Wall Street Journal.

Journalist after journalist lining up on every channel, every platform to complain about Laura K and “lack of access” to the PM. Listen: Andy Burnham is not accountable to the cabal of media owners who detest Labour and created Brexit – he is accountable to the people – most of whom do not read those papers or view those outlets. Of course he must answer media Qs but he must not play a game created by sworn enemies.
