Bill Hagerty, the chairman emeritus of the British Journalism Review, died on Boxing Day, aged 86, after a short illness. The editor of the magazine for a decade until 2012, when he took the role of chairing the editorial board which he held until 2019, Bill Hagerty has been fundamental to the success and reputation of the BJR throughout its lifetime. A former Fleet Street editor who was a writing journalist for an astonishing 70 years, he was a remarkable man who will be greatly missed by this publication. A tribute to him and his considerable contribution to journalism will be included in the next issue.
